Kate, Luna, and I were on a walk one night and noticed that the firefly population seemed to be on the rise in our neighborhood. They had been on the decline for many years and it got to the point where we thought they might disappear altogether.
Not sure what changed, but there are a decent number of sparkles now.
It was on this walk that I thought to myself, “One of the things I like about summer is that the fireflies come out.”
DOING… Instant pun.

Glad the fireflies are coming back! Ever try making a gyouno with Luna?
What’s a gyouno?
A paper lantern (sometimes with wooden frame) with lids. Use a fan to coax the fireflies into the lantern. Then, shut the lids. You then walk around for a bit; and let the firefiles out after awhile. It was used to teach kids how life is beautiful, yet ephemeral….enjoy every sandwich/onigiri. Another word for them was andon no mai (dancing lantern).
aaaahhhhhhh…..
